Symptoms & Repair Costs
  • a. If your controller assembly has broken buttons, e-mail me so I can see if new buttons are available, or if we can fix yours.
  • b. If either your keypad or touch screen has a problem, we now can repair your controller assembly. The cost would run $89.95, which includes insured return shipping.
  • c. If your cooktop lights, exhaust fan, inside light, or cooling fan are stuck on or will not come on, we can normally repair your controller assembly. The cost would run $89.95, and would include insured return shipping.
  • d. If your controller assembly has some combination of the problems at "a" and "b" and "c" above, the cost would run $89.95, which includes insured return shipping.
  • NOTE: If it would cost any more, I would contact you first with an estimate for approval.
If you have other questions, please e-mail me with your specific symptoms and please include your full model number with suffix (from the oven's tag) in your e-mail.

Disassembly & What To Send

First see our disassembly video below but note that your model's grille screws will be on the top front edge of the cover above the grille, not in the grille.

If you have any trouble getting the grille off once the screws are removed as per the video below, slide the hood vent grille to the left about 1/4", then then pull it forward. Be gentle. On some models there are L-shaped clips that fit into a slot to hold bottom of the vent.

If the video is not appearing, please click here.
(pardon the poor lighting, but we wanted to get this online for you!)

Once your controller assembly is removed as per the video, please do not disassemble it further. These are extremely fragile.

Print & read our current repair form for payment info, shipping address, terms, and other details, fill out the form neatly in clear print, include your prepayment, and pack everything in asturdy box with at least 2" of clearance on all sides (not a thin "shirt" type box) with the open space protected by good cushioning like bubble wrap or packing peanuts.

Please do not use shredded paper or cardboard as packing material.

I would recommend insuring your package for $750 - $1,200 replacement value, depending on the model.

Ordering GE Parts & Accessories
  • Always use your full model with suffix as shown on the model tag found in or on your microwave, but do not include any dashes or spaces. Other than the control unit as noted above, available parts for these models (service manual) can be ordered by part number from The Pros here.
Typical model number tag locations.
On "over the counter" models, look
inside
 the cooking cavity also.

Other problems or questions?
  • E-mail me (technical inquiries only) and include detailed symptoms & full model number with suffix from the tag in the oven.

Samsung microwave oven " SE " errors - official Samung repair information

OFFICIAL SAMSUNG MICROWAVE OVEN "SE" / "5E" ERROR REPAIR INFORMATION, FULL MODEL LIST & PART NUMBERS

Please share this page's link on Facebook. (Service manual links coming soon.) updated October 28, 2015

Samsung has released an official service bulletin detailing the only correct repair procedure for the listed models of microwaves when they develop an intermittent or constant "SE" error (sometimes erroneously called a "5E" error).

BEWARE BOGUS REPAIR TIPS!

There are many "tips" and videos online which depict cleaning methods and paper inserts as solutions. These methods only work if there is moisture or grease or damage in the areas the tips highlight. Many folks are fooled into thinking these "solutions" work because the "SE" problem can be intermittent until it fails for good. Another, more important issue is safety...

IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION

The "SE" error is reported by the microwave's software whenever one or more keys on the keypad are pressed or shorted for more than 60 seconds. An "SE" condition can result in the microwave oven running on its own, which can result (and has resulted) in house fires. So until your oven is repaired, please leave it unplugged, or at the very least, leave the door open so it can't run.

And before you begin working on your microwave or any other electrical item, read my important safety information and also note that, in Samsung's words:
"This information is published for informational purposes only and intended for use only by personnel qualified for the specific tasks depicted. Qualified personnel are those who, based on their training and experience, are capable of identifying risks and avoiding potential hazards when handling or servicing a product. Only qualified personnel should repair products powered by electricity. Any attempt to handle, service or repair the product or products by anyone other than qualified personnel could result in serious injury or death. You agree that your use of and reliance on this information is at your sole risk. This information is subject to change or update without notice. There are no warranties, either expressed or implied, regarding the accuracy or completeness of this information."
ORDERING PARTS TO DO IT YOURSELF

You can order appliance parts and accessories from several sources, but here are my favorites*, in order of preference: Appliance Parts Pros, Sears Parts Direct, and Encompass. (You can check all three for the best price and availability.)

MODELS AFFECTED

Note the difference between a model number and a model code. When you remove your control panel assembly, if the model code tag on the keypad strip says something other than "XAA" please contact me before ordering parts. The model code tag is found on the keypad's connector strip, and is visible only when the control panel assembly has been removed.

( click for LARGE photo of model code tag & location )

If your model number is not listed and you need help, or there is a mistake, please... contact me at no charge but please do not call. Instead e-mail me for free technical help and please include the full model number and FCC ID number from the tag of your oven, plus your detailed symptoms, and also when they happen. Click the mail link at the top right of my home page to contact me. (If you call, there's no easy way to communicate the information you need, especially the photos and links I'll provide you!)

The list below shows each model number affected, and to its right is the part number you need to order.  If a model number is underlined in red, you can click the link to download that model's service manual for even more precise disassembly and repair information for other problems.

It's best to copy and paste the part number to avoid the complications of confusing an oh with a zero, etc.:

DISASSEMBLY TIPS & NOTES

See the safety information near the top first!

My (old but helpful) video shows you how to remove the control panel assembly from most over the range microwave oven brands.

But on these and other Samsung and GE models, if you have any trouble getting the grille off once the screws are removed, slide the hood vent grille to the left about 1/4", then then pull it forward. (On some models there are L-shaped clips that fit into a slot to hold bottom of the vent.)

Some connectors have a lock. And be careful disconnecting the keypad.

Once your board is out of your old control panel frame, move it to the panel assembly, but be careful since the display is made of glass. If you break the glass, you will need a new board!

* DISCLOSURES

I have over 30 years' of experience in electronic design and repair. These really are my favorite suppliers, due to several factors such as price, inventory, warranty, return policy, etc. Yes, I am an affiliate of these suppliers, but I would recommend them even if I weren't. When you click on one of my part links and order a part or accessory, I do receive a small commission, which I appreciate as a "thank you" for my helping you save money and effectively repair your appliances. But I am in no way affiliated with Samsung.

SOLVED: " SE " error code Maytag MMV4203DS00 stainless MMV4203DW00 white MMV4203DB00 black MMV4203DQ00 bisque microwave oven keypad fix free repair tips

Unless there is grease or moisture, etc. on the control circuit board or keypad strip, the "SE" error means you have a shorting membrane keypad. Sometimes they can be intermittent, but replacement is the only solution.

NOTE: If and when an oven is coming on or doing anything by itself, this is very dangerous and can result in a fire. So until it is repaired, please leave it unplugged or leave the door open when it's not in use, and of course one should never leave a microwave unattended while cooking.

The simplest way to fix this is a do it yourself solution, to replace the control panel frame assembly, which comes with a new keypad already attached.

It is part number W10258190  "Panl - Cntrl" and you can order it from the Pros here * for about $174.15 (price subject to change).

NOTE: For those with other colors of this microwave, here are the model numbers and parts:
  • MMV4203DS00 stainless W10258190 $174.15
  • MMV4203DW00 white W10258189 $156.24
  • MMV4203DB00 black W10258188 $156.96
  • MMV4203DQ00 bisque W10258191 - no longer available (can use white above)
At my Web site, we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

If you have any trouble getting the grille off once the screws are removed, slide the hood vent grille to the left about 1/4", then then pull it forward. On some models there are L-shaped clips that fit into a slot to hold bottom of the vent.

Some connectors have a lock. And be careful disconnecting the keypad.

Then move your board to the new panel assembly, but be careful since the display is made of glass.

Need more help? Instead of calling, please e-mail me with your full model number and FCC ID number from the tag on your oven, your detailed symptoms, and when they happen.

Thanks,

* The Pros are my favorite appliance parts supplier, yes I do have an affiliate relationship with them. But more importantly, they have excellent service, a great return policy, and they usually have the best price. Other great appliance parts suppliers include Sears Parts Direct and Encompass. I'm affiliated with them as well. Have been for many moons.

SOLVED: Samsung model SMH8165ST SE error code - microwave oven SMH8165STE aka 5E or SK or 5K fault code

> Samsung -- Model - SMH81655T -- with flashing "SK" code --
> can you fix? Cost?

NOTE: Model number is SMH8165ST and the error code is "SE", sometimes mistaken for "5E." Also applies to SMH8165STE.

Unless there is grease or moisture on the control circuit board, then "SE" means you have a shorting membrane keypad.

NOTE: If and when an oven is coming on or doing anything by itself, this is very dangerous and can result in a fire. So until it is repaired, please leave it unplugged or leave the door open when it's not in use, and of course one should never leave a microwave unattended while cooking.

The factory-authorized solution to SE errors (as per their bulletin) is to replace the control panel frame assembly, which comes with a new membrane keypad already attached. That is part number DE94-01806C and you can get it from the Pros here* for $110.82 (subject to change).

At my Web site, I have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes. I also have the Samsung SMH8165STE service manual / repair manual here. Both have important safety information to note before any disassembly.

If you have any trouble getting the grille off once the screws are removed, slide the hood vent grille to the left about 1/4", then then pull it forward. On some models there are L-shaped clips that fit into a slot to hold bottom of the vent.

Be very careful when disconnecting the cables & wires. Some connectors have a locking tab:

Next remove the keypad strip:

Then simply move your circuit board into the new frame.

Be careful, because your display tube is made of glass, and if it breaks, the board must be replaced as well.

Let me know by e-mail if I can help further.  Always include your full model number from the tag, the FCC ID number from the tag, your detailed symptoms, and when they happen.
